I think TC did a much better job of exploring the theme of colonialism, and it was interesting to see depictions of racism from the French towards the different ethnic groups that had been colonised by France. The Committed was less action packed than The Sympathizer, and much more explicitly philosophical, but I also really loved the characters. What did you all think? I would like to hear!!< I found that there were definitely enough callbacks to the sympathizer that needn't have reread it However, I am glad I did haha. As well, I thought the discussion of Fanon, Sartre, Cesaire, Kristeva was fitting considering the setting and how the captain aka had developed as a character. I very much enjoyed his pov of Paris and Parisian society. While I liked The Committed, I do feel that it did not capture me in the same way the sympathizer did. I felt like there were many times where I just stopped and reread a passage just the savor the prose. I remained quite impressed while reading it again. When I found out that Park Chan-wook is set to direct a TV adaptation I was pretty hyped so I reread the sympathizer in anticipation of reading The Committed. I was pretty excited for this one, having read the Sympathizer in 2017, and was quite taken. I just finished it the other day, and was looking for a discussion thread but couldn't seem to find one.
